An amateur astronomer has released a video to a local news station for review after he caught an explosion through his telescope recently. The man’s name is Elijah Prychodzko and he witnessed this bizarre event in the Sacramento sky on December 20th, 2012 at around 5:00pm PST.
Mr. Prychodzko was trying to sell his video on Craigslist to people to see if anyone was interested in owning the rare explosion captured. In an interview with CBS13 he was heard saying, “Almost got rid of it a week before. I was trying to sell it on Craigslist and I was getting offers and, man, you know what, at this time I’m glad I didn’t sell it.” It seems that right after trying to sell the video on Craigslist Elijah went to the CBS13 Facebook page and said, “I have something on video no one have ever seen, I had my telescope out caught an explosion in outer space wana see the video?” The news team’s Cody Stark responded, “Absolutely! When and where did you shoot it?”
You can see in the video the first video looks like a large fireball or even a star in the night sky. Elijah was impressed enough that he put down his iPhone 5 which was held up to the eye piece of the telescope and called his nephew. When the iPhone 5 was put back up to the eye piece of the telescope the object blew up right before his eyes.
The staff at Good Day Sacramento sent the video off to author Dr. Stephen P Maran of Astronomy for Dummies. The response wasn’t very exciting as it was simply, “My personal opinion is that it is not an astronomical event.” So it seems it was something closer in the atmosphere that was in orbit or falling to the earth and was caught in it’s glorifying explosion. What do you think it is?
