G70's ace in the hole?

Matrox Releases G550 for PCI Express Bus Citar:
It is unclear whether Matrox has created a special version of its G550 to operate using PCI Express bus, or uses a bridge chip to convert the chip’s AGP signals into PCI Express signals. A Texas Instruments (TI) chip is installed onto the Matrox Millennium G550 PCIe graphics card, but at press time TI’s web-site did not contain any information in regards the chip. | puentearon un diseño de la epoca de las GF3 a PCI-E Low-End Multi-GPU on the Horizon – Web-Site.
NVIDIA’s GeForce 6600 LE is SLI Capable – Report Citar:
Even despite of the fact that a real benefit from a multi-GPU technology can only be obtained on high-end graphics cards, as when it comes to mainstream solutions a single higher-end product would be equal or better compared to what a couple of affordable GPUs can offer, NVIDIA reportedly plans to enable its multi-GPU SLI tech for low-end GeForce 6600 LE products.
A report over DigiTimes web-site claims that NVIDIA would introduce in early August its GeForce 6600 LE-series graphics products that support multi-GPU SLI (Scalable Link Interface) priced at about $60 - $70 FOB (free on board). Second-tier mainboard makers are said to believe that a mainboard that sports two PCI Express x16 slots to support multi-GPU operation as well as two GeForce 6600 LE graphics cards would cost around $200 in wholesale without international freight charges, taxes, etc.
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE graphics processing unit features 4 pixel and 3 vertex pipelines, less than the GeForce 6600 product, which provides 8 pixel pipes. However, the GPU operates at higher clock-speeds of 425MHz for the GPU, whereas memory (which is expected to have 128-bit memory access) operates at 550MHz, the same speed as that of the GeForce 6600 model. Some web-sites reported that NVIDIA wants to replace its GeForce 6200 with more powerful GeForce 6600 LE offering in order to propose a solution which would be more powerful than competing products from ATI.
Performance of two GeForce 6600 LE graphics cards is likely to be faster than that provided by a single GeForce 6600 due to much higher clock-speed of LE version amid equal amount of pixel processors. Still, pricing of two GeForce 6600 LE is likely to be close to much more powerful GeForce 6600 GT, which also has 8 pixel processors, is clocked at 500MHz and features 1GHz memory.
NVIDIA did not comment on the news-story, but recently enabled its SLI technology for the GeForce 6600 graphics cards.

"Faster than [Mac OS X] on my Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5." In addition to booting Windows XP at blazing speeds, the included version of Mac OS X for Intel takes "as little as 10 seconds" to boot to the Desktop from when the Apple logo first displays on screen.
Included with the Mac OS X for Intel distribution is an Applications folder stocked with a mixture of PowerPC and Intel-native applications. Applications that are compiled only for PowerPC processors are of filetype "Application (PowerPC)" whereas Intel-native binaries are labeled of standard type "Application".
Developers sources say the early version of Rosetta, a dynamic binary translator that is designed to run unaltered PowerPC applications on Intel Macs, is also impressive. "Rosetta is completely 100 percent seamless and nothing like the Classic environment used to run older Mac OS 8 and 9 applications under Mac OS X," one source told AppleInsider.
"With the exception of the "PowerPC" denotation and the presence of "Open in Rosetta" checkbox in the application info boxes, you can't tell which applications are universal and which are PowerPC-only unless you examine package contents," the source explained.
Since the developer version of Mac OS X for Intel offers users the option of running any application under Rosetta, developers have been able to perform rudimentary speed comparisons between native Intel Mac applications and those that must first filter through the Rosetta binary translator.
"Taking a universal binary and timing its startup in Intel native speed versus its startup when opened via Rosetta results in a slowdown, but not as much as one would think," said another source. "The apps run at about 65 to 70 percent of their normal speed."
However, some PowerPC-native applications realize little to no speed reductions while running under Rosetta. A source told AppleInsider the current PowerPC version of the popular Firefox web browser loads just as fast under Mac OS X Intel as it does on a high-end dual processor Power Mac G5.
If reports are accurate, Mac users have a lot to look forward to in regards to web browsing under Mac OS X for Intel. According to sources, web browsing in general is much faster under Mac OS X for Intel than it is under the shipping version of Mac OS X for PowerPC. Web pages snap to the screen, the same way they do in Internet Explorer running on a new Pentium system, they say.
The first Mac systems to sport Intel processors are expected to hit the market around the middle of next year according to statements made by Apple, though recent mumblings indicate that the company may be striving to beat those estimates by several months. | Y los benchs de Apple tuvieron su dia negro Excelente mod: Rack de audio@Server Citar:
A little foreword
I think the idea of having a 19" rack at home is every techs dream. This was also the case when I wanted to decomission my power hungry and space consuming server PCs and replace them with a 19" rack, but it seems that when ever the frase "19 inch" is added to any PC part the price skyrockets.
That was the end of my dream until a friend told me he was going to build a new 19" rack for his music equipment as his old rack was getting to small. So we looked into it and discovered it used the same dimensions as the PC racks.
Goals of the project:
Low cost
Space saving
Low power consumption
High disk space
RAID1 space for importent data
I chose Mini ITX motherboards with their size (170mm x 170mm) and low power consumption they were perfect for this project. I only needed to buy extra controller cards for the extra harddrives everything else was onboard (NIC/GFX).
